Form and Function
This project is aimed to make us take a function and have us change a form to accommodate it. This allows us to think how an everyday moving object could be broken down and used for a different purpose

Moving Object
My object was an umbrella. Umbrellas move similar to an accordion or collapsible design. When the piece moves up and down the rod, it either extends or collapses depending on the direction. Going up the rod will extend the arm and going down the rod will collapse the arm.

Preliminary Design
My design is made to accommodate the new opening that is required for ships to pass through. I have used the umbrella to lift the section up and out of the way by curling the system upwards and to the side. The large additions are used to accent the rollers that will be used to pull the system just as you would pull down the piece to close the umbrella.
